Frequently asked questions
We would describe our editing style as somewhat moody and vibrant with clean skin tones – we aim to make our editing timeless and not overly trendy. We are definitely not bright and airy or overly moody.
We make exceptions for branding and commercial clients that want a cohesive look for their brand.
A long time! Kyle has been capturing weddings for over a decade and Rachel has been doing so for over five years.
Our team members also have many years of experience and have been working with North Arrow specifically for over 3 years.
We capture between 25-40 weddings per year.
We absolutely will travel for destination weddings! Our passports are current and we can pack a bag at the drop of a hat. We are called North Arrow for a reason. Every map has a north arrow on it and we have always desired to travel. It is added bonus to be able to fulfill a passion while hanging with people we enjoy being around.
Travel was one of the reasons we started the company. We have always longed to explore the world and we are lucky to have the opportunity to travel with our clients and capture all of the moments from one of the most important days of their lives.
We have shot weddings and engagement sessions in Las Vegas, Kansas City, San Diego, Chicago, Vancouver, Mexico and Jamaica. Here are a couple of videos we put together from our trips to Colorado and Chicago
If you only book one of our services (photography or videography) on your wedding day, there will be a minimum of two photographers or videographers depending on the service selected. If you choose both services, there will be between 3-4 photographers and videographers at your wedding to cover all of the action. When booking both of our services you can rest assured that our team of professionals will capture the important moments and with planning and good communication, nothing will be missed.
Our assistant photographers and videographers are trusted professionals in the industry who have a shooting style similar to our own and have trained with us specifically for weddings.
It is also worth mentioning that using one company for your wedding day documentation helps ensure that you will not only have consistency in your final products but will also be captured by a coordinated team of professionals who are passionate and work well together as photographers and videographers.
Our wedding clients will receive all of their edited images within a few weeks after their wedding day via an online gallery. They will have the right to download and print the images once the final images are uploaded.
Please note that images/digital files are not included with any session. Images from all other sessions (engagement, bridal, cake smash, seniors, boudoir, portraits, etc.) will be available for purchase a la carte after you have had the chance to review the final edited images online.
We typically create a blog using our favorite images within 2 weeks of your session or event date – depending on your package, all of those images will be available to you via an online gallery which is designed for easy sharing and storing of your photos.
You can expect to access all of your images with 3-4 weeks of your session or event date. Your online gallery can also be used to order prints and have them delivered directly to your front door. If you are ordering an album, your final product will arrive within one month of your final album proof.
There is no image cap. A typical 10 hour wedding day can yield between 600-900+ images.
A typical portrait session can yield between 100-300 images.
Our deposit fee to reserve your wedding date is $1,000. This counts toward your final balance and is due when signing the contract to reserve your date. The remainder of your balance is due 30 days before your wedding.
Yes, we have and have shot many weddings with differing cultures over the years. Some of these weddings last multiple days and we can create a custom package to fit your specific needs.
We are fine with guests taking their own pictures as long as they do not intrude and prevent us from doing our jobs. However, we strongly suggest our clients discourage guests from using cell phones and tablets during the ceremony especially as the bride is coming down the aisle. Your guests should be invested in the moment, not distract by an electronic device.
We select the music for most of our videos through Marmoset Music, a music licensing website. We spend a lot of time listening to music to find the right song that fits the mood and pace of the day. We tend to use emotional instrumental music and occasionally include audio captured from the wedding day, such as a heartfelt speech, if we feel it adds to the film. It sounds a little weird but we enjoy making people cry…in a good way. In the case that the client wants us to use a specific song, we absolutely will – as long as the license can be attained at a rate of $200 or less. A few alternative websites that provide licensed music for videos are The Music Bed, Triple Scoop Music, Song Freedom and Audio Jungle.
Engagement sessions can last anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending on what we have planned with our clients. We like to custom design engagement sessions to have a theme or be shot in meaningful locations. We work with our clients to figure out exactly what they want, so the sessions can be as minimal or elaborate as you like. We have even flown out of the country for an engagement session because our clients wanted their pictures taken where they first met!
Through our online gallery system, you will be able to ‘favorite’ the images you would like to appear in the album. We will give you a guideline to follow (5 photos of bridal prep, 5 shots of details, 10 formal shots, etc.). We aesthetically arrange the images in the album for you and send you PDF proofs for any changes you want to make before they are sent off to be printed.
We do! We especially enjoy shooting in-home newborn sessions and ‘Cake Smash’ sessions for one year olds. Images from all sessions (cake smash, newborn, family, etc.) will be available for purchase a la carte after you have reviewed the final edited images online. We also create birth announcement videos to share with friends and family. Adorable, right? Props to you if you recognized the song.
A ‘Love Story’ is a film we create before the wedding to be played at your wedding reception. We bring a high definition projector/speaker and play the film on a blank wall so everyone can see. This is perfect for playing during cocktail hour or before the reception begins. This can be a simple story explaining how you two met and how your proposal went down OR it can be something completely different. We are really up for anything when it comes to this! If you are timid to speak in front of the camera, do not fear! We can create a slideshow of old pictures of the two of you and intertwine clips of your two interacting, laughing, cuddling, etc. The length of the shoot is all dependent on what we all decide to create together!
We do not – not yet anyway. Each of our videos are unique to the couple. Telling the story about how their wedding day unfolded is our main focus. Additionally, we include a lot of fun reception clips in our highlight reels, which cannot be captured and edited into a ‘same day edit’. This also gives us more flexibility when choosing the perfect song for your wedding highlight reel. Ultimately, the good news is you will not be receiving a cookie-cutter wedding video, but rather a hand crafted video that was created specifically for you.
We are very familiar with most of the major venues in St. Louis (Chase Park Plaza, Renaissance Grand, World’s Fair Pavilion, 9th Street Abbey, Coronado Ballroom, Forest Park Visitor’s Center, The City Museum…the list goes on and on!). If we have not been to your venue, we will either schedule an appointment to visit it prior to your wedding or attend the rehearsal dinner.
