Ashley + Matt | Taqueria Z + SIUE Gardens | Edwardsville, IL

It's probably not very common to start an engagement session with margaritas, especially at 10:30 in the morning, buuuuuuut we like shake things up sometimes. After catching up with Ashley and Matt about how they've been since their consult and getting new details about their upcoming Mexico wedding, we jumped right into pictures. We're not 100% sure if it was the margaritas that did the trick or if Ashley and Matt are just naturally photogenic and affectionate, but when we had an easy job making them look good! Ashley and Matt met in a shared college class at SIUE and live in the area so that's where we decided to have the session. We actually live super close and are frequently hanging out in Edwardsville, so we were excited to be shooting there. We started at our favorite local food spot, Taqueria Z, which happens to have cool interior and exterior design as well as amazing atmosphere. We then walked around the downtown strip, hitting up places that caught our eyes and theirs... including a loading zone in a parking lot. They made it look cool. We also went to SIUE gardens and Ashley and Matt seemed excited to be revisiting the campus for the first time since graduating. The campuses tall pine trees make me feel like I'm in the Pacific Northwest rather than Illinois. We finished up the session at their home where we got to meet Buster, their playful and cuddly pup. We also got to appreciate their extensive collection of Blues hockey and Cardinals baseball memorabilia - including an autographed picture of an adolescent Matt and St. Louis born rapper Nelly, over a beer. We had so much fun with these two and were laughing the whole time and we think their images shows just how much fun they are having together and how excited they are to be getting married to each other! We can't wait to be sharing margaritas and dipping our toes in the ocean with them in Cancun next year and we're amped to be documenting the biggest day of their lives so far!
